Scriptworks @ Croydon
Scriptworks @ Croydon was an exciting collaboration between Half Moon, Croydon Clocktower and young people from Haling Manor High School culminating in a unique show performed at Clocktower's South London base.
We have been successfully running Scriptworks programmes in our East London venue with schools across Tower Hamlets since 2004. This thrilling collaboration with Croydon Clocktower marked the first time we took our expertise in this field to another venue.
Working with a professional writer, Director and Designer, young people from Haling Manor Years 9 & 10 formed their own theatre company with the aim of creating a new play inspired by Article 13 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
'The child shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of the child's choice.' (Article 13 of the United Nations Conventions)

We Are Shadows, Sept - Oct 2007
To support Half Moon's tour of We Are Shadows, we offered a unique workshop programme which brought the theatre experience directly to the classroom. Each workshop began with a performance of one of the monologues by an actor from the cast and then led into a workshop of either:
Acting the Monologue or Writing the Monologue.
The workshop programme was designed as a practical stand-alone session that explored and developed the young peoples theatre craft. It could also be used in conjunction with the teachers resources pack to complete the work of the Edexcel GCSE in Drama Paper 1, Unit 2.
Half Moon also produced a Teachers Resource Pack along with specific downloads for young people that accompanied the show for use in the classroom, you can download them below for free.
Teachers resource pack
A guide to writing your own monologue
A scene by scene breakdown

Locked In, 2006
To support Half Moon's tour of Locked In, we offered schools our hugely popular education package, developed in direct liaison with GCSE teachers. This included a post-performance workshop that meets the EdExcel GCSE Drama Syllabus Paper 1 Unit 2:
"The whole workshop worked really well; timing, variation of activities, stretching the kids' abilities etc was all very effective."
Teacher, Thomas More Secondary School
"The workshop was fun and the tutor got some people joining in who didn't want to at the beginning."
Students, Glebe School
"Students LOVED the workshop - great animators and very useful for drama! Enormous thanks, the students really enjoyed themselves!" Teacher, Stanley Tech High School

Meteor Writes, 2006
Four secondary schools in Tower Hamlets worked with a professional writer and director to create their own piece of science-based theatre. The groups met for after-school sessions and used their own ideas and improvisation to come up with the ideas that the writer created into a script. In Half Term, the groups came to the theatre to rehearse, worked with a set designer and finally presented their finished piece to friends and family.
