A butterfly flutters. A kite soars. Children play. But not everyone has something to play with. Join Rip, Fold and Scrunch as they journey into the multicoloured world of friendship, with the help of some magical paper creations.

Inspired by the imagination and play of children, Half Moon's enchanting new show fuses theatre, Kathak dance and music within a paper world, which is created and dismantled before our eyes.

After the performance audience members are invited to come and experiment with paper - ripping, folding and scrunching their own creations.

Rip, Fold, Scrunch was first developed as part of Half Moon's Exchange For Change project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The artists involved worked closely with a local nursery group to create a captivating play that stimulates and reflects the imagination of the very young.

Rip, Fold, Scrunch is accompanied by an extensive participatory programme in Children's Centres and Foundation groups in Tower Hamlets and Camden.

Unfortunately there is no space for new groups on the Rip, Fold, Scrunch programme. We are currently in phase two of the programme working with 12 groups until May 2010.

The participatory programme consists of four multi-sensory workshops and all groups have visited Half Moon's Limehouse venue to see the professional production Rip, Fold, Scrunch. The project also has legacy built in via INSET for Children's Centre staff and teachers and a set of bells, like those worn by the Kathak dancer in the play, for participants.

Half Moon have vast experience of working with Early Years groups.

“ Both adults and children enjoyed this experience, it was suitable for age and stage of development. The staff also worked with the children who attend the Spark Centre, these children have additional needs such as autism. They loved the session.”
