A summer of imagination for the young

If you’re wondering how to keep young imaginations entertained this summer, Half Moon’s upcoming season might just have the answer.

From high-seas adventures to gravity-defying aerial theatre, the Limehouse venue is once again proving why it’s one of the capital’s leading spaces for young audiences and their families.

Things begin in May with Pie-Rat Island (15–16 May), a joyful, play-along adventure for ages 2–6. Little ones are invited to join Ratty and friends on a musical journey packed with puppetry, games and imaginative storytelling. Saturday performances have already sold out – a clear sign that families are eager to dive in.

The following week, Boxed In (21–23 May) offers something a little different. A Half Moon co-production with Disabled-led company Daryl & Co., this largely non-verbal show uses movement and humour to explore the invisible rules that shape our lives. It’s thoughtful, inclusive theatre that speaks volumes without saying a word, and is accessible to a wide range of audiences.

June opens with Take Flight (5–6 June), a beautifully gentle aerial performance designed especially for babies aged 0–2. Following a mother bird and her chick, it’s a multi-sensory experience that blends music, movement and early development principles – with time at the end for little ones to explore the set themselves.

For older children aged 5+, Hopeful Monsters (19–20 June) transforms the stage into a mesmerising world of shape-shifting creatures, told entirely through hands. It’s a striking, wordless journey through evolution, connection and play.

Rounding off the season is Rapunzel (25–27 June), a bold and funny reimagining of the classic tale. Expect music, mischief and a heroine firmly in charge of her own story – with no prince required.

Across the programme, what stands out is Half Moon’s commitment to making theatre welcoming, imaginative and accessible from the very earliest years. Many performances include stay-and-play sessions, and several shows are designed to be enjoyed without language barriers.

With some performances already sold out, booking ahead is strongly advised, and at just £9 a ticket, it remains one of the most affordable ways to introduce children to the magic of the stage.

This summer, you don’t need a plane ticket for an adventure, just a trip to Limehouse.

Tickets can be booked on the What’s On page or by calling the box office on 020 709 8900.
