Day 1

When I knew that it was show week I was speechless. I just didn’t know what to say because I was so happy. When I was on the D3 bus going to Half Moon I just couldn’t stop talking about it. I was thinking to myself, ‘OMG will I be working as part of a production team.’ As I got off my bus I had to cross three roads in order to get to the theatre. When I got in I was met by some amazing staff who made me feel welcome. On the first day I was given my lunch times, and then afterwards I had to do some work on the computer for Stephen. Also there was some pictures of children who were at Half Moon previously, and I needed to keep or delete the pictures, which I really enjoyed doing. Then I had to go with Phil to help him prepare the theatre so that it was ready for the children who were coming. I had fun because I even had the opportunity to try out the lights. It surprised me a lot when I saw the colours appear.

Day 2

Today was my second day of work experience at Half Moon. I really enjoyed it, I thought the children in Eclipse Youth Theatre were fantastic! They did so well, and worked so hard. I was so proud of them. Afterwards I had to take some things downstairs, and then I was getting everything ready for the next group, Lunar Youth Theatre. They really made me laugh so much! I really enjoyed it so much, they were amazing. I just couldn’t stop laughing after that, it was so funny! I couldn’t believe it.

Day 3

Today was the day where Equinox and Solar Youth Theatres were performing their pieces. I really liked both of their pieces, they were absolutely amazing. When Solar was performing they sang Let It Be by The Beatles and it blew me away. I just knew that it was my grandad’s favourite band, and it almost made me speechless. Then I knew that it was time for me to hop back on my D3 bus to go home. As I got on the bus I just couldn’t stop talking about it. It was unbelievable.

Day 4

I got up nice and early to start my fourth day. I had some good breakfast and I had a good night’s sleep. When I got to Half Moon, the first thing I had to do was to sort out some forms from the Transitions project, which had been filled out by Year 6 students who will be going to secondary school in September from different primary schools. It was the perfect job for me. Before I started I knew that I needed to fill in a table with a list of different primary schools, and fill in what the children’s emotions were and how they were feeling about going to secondary school. I recognised some of the schools such as Chisenhale Primary School, which is in Bethnal Green. It was one of my highlights from the week.

Day 5

Overall I have really enjoyed my week at Half Moon. I just want to say a huge, massive thank you to all the staff, and to Phil, for having me. It was a real pleasure being at Half Moon. I really enjoyed myself and I really would like to come back again as it was a privilege to be here. Today I was helping Androulla wrapping some presents for Phil who was leaving. I was so lucky to be working here and to be part of the production. It gave me a good feeling of being in a theatre. In the future I will know what work is like in a theatre, and what to expect over the coming years. Thank you Half Moon for having me, it was amazing being here.

Lucas came to us from St Michael’s Catholic College (Southwark), 8th July – 12th July 2019.
