I have been at Half Moon Theatre with my KickStart scheme placement as Marketing and Box Office assistant for over a month now. I am loving the experience and the opportunity it has given me to learn about the behind the scenes of running a young people’s theatre.

The nature of my position means that I can learn a range of new skills and help with many varying tasks within the team. Most recently I have been helping our Communications Manager, Stephen to advertise the new 2022 season of shows by scheduling tweets, organising the distribution of brochures, and promoting the shows by posting listings to websites.

My first week working for Half Moon was during one of the Careers in Theatre weeks. It was amazing to witness the work that Half Moon do to help young people to experience theatre and to provide local schools in Tower Hamlets with incredible opportunities. I particularly enjoyed getting to watch the performances by the schools at the end of the day!

After working from home for over a year I find working for the Box Office on busy Saturday’s really exciting, it’s lovely to welcome the children and their families who are coming to watch live theatre again and meeting the parents and children of the three Youth Theatre groups and putting faces to names. It’s really rewarding to see the lovely comments in our feedback book after each show too!

I am really looking forward to the rest of my placement at Half Moon and am hoping that our great new season of children’s theatre coming in 2022 will be uninterrupted by COVID.
