BLOG: Stella (KickStart Placement) Final Blog

After six months my KickStart placement as Marketing and Box Office Assistant is coming to an end. Though I am sad to be leaving, my placement here has taught me lots of new skills and therefore helped me to secure an exciting full-time role in another creative organisation that starts at the end of this month!

Now that the Spring Season of shows on Saturdays have finished – and with them my weekend box office duties – I have spent my weekday office hours taking on some research tasks, looking into accessibility and how we can improve Half Moon’s Access web page.

I have enjoyed this research as it’s interesting to see what other theatres are doing to be fully accessible and I’ve been coming up with ways that we can improve the information on our website and the service we offer to greater include everyone’s needs.

On the theme of accessibility, I have also been going through our Stages of Half Moon video interviews and have been manually adding captions to them. This has been a really great thing to learn how to do and so interesting to get the chance to hear so much about the history of Half Moon and to hear from the crucial people who have worked with the company since its inception in 1972.

Half Moon also offers an On Demand page as an opportunity to watch some of our shows at home. I have taken on the project of researching how we can improve how we market this streaming service on our website and social media platforms. By looking at how other theatres talk about their digital offering, I have been able to come up with ideas for social media campaigns and for ways in which we can increase the visibility and engagement of our On Demand page.

With only a week left of my placement I am so grateful that I have had the chance to get to know the theatre, staff and young people who made me feel really welcomed. I am also thankful for the support of Creative Access throughout the placement and to the KickStart Scheme for creating this great employment opportunity.
