Day 1 – Monday 29 June 2026

I arrived at Half Moon Theatre at 3pm on Monday 29^th June. I had no idea what I was expecting as I had never been here before but luckily, I had heard of it. I also came on a very chaotic week as its performance week so I knew it would be a fun experience. I know people personally who come to Half Moon from my school, which made me know that this establishment was a good place. Beforehand I asked a person how Half Moon is, asking questions like how the atmosphere is, are the people nice. Now I have found out that there was never a need to worry about anything.

When I entered the establishment, I was greeted by Androulla and given a tour around for me to become familiar with my surroundings. I have to say that the theatre looked very different to what I imagined but not in a bad way. After my tour I was introduced to members of staff which were all so welcoming towards me, which made my anxiousness go away and I became comfortable. At first, I was scared of this work experience as I can be very shy but the members made me feel made me much better.

Later on in the day I began to work in designing and helping Solar. I had painted boxes to help with the decorations for their performance, and I also drew some doodles to make stickers for their boombox. I found this task very fun as I do art in school and I find it very calming. Working with Solar was amazing and inspiring as they work so hard and they are so talented. As a person who does theatre it inspired me to not give up as much as I always do.

Day 2 – Tuesday 30 June 2026

Today I arrived at 2pm for my work experience. Yesterday gave me an idea of what I was doing for the day as I was told what was happening. This was very helpful to me so I could prepare myself for anything happening. I was excited to know I would be making little gift bags, personally and weirdly it is one of my favourite tasks to do so I didn’t mind doing it. This was a very easy task for me, which was just what I needed at the start of my day. As the performances were starting today, I was quite intrigued on how the younger kids can act as when I saw Solar perform they were amazing.

After I had watched the performance, I was amazed by how hard these little kids had worked. It was different to see such hard work at all times due to my drama class in school showing a lack of motivation the majority of the time. Once again, I was inspired by people who are younger than me in age but worked way harder and had such a good outcome in their performance. The way they worked together was extraordinary and I hope to see more like this in the future or even my own work.

Day 3 – Wednesday 1 July 2026

Today I arrived at 2pm for my work experience. I had a very interesting day watching another performance by watching Equinox perform. Like every other performance I watched, it was amazing and there were loads of children who are going to be great actors in the future. I was also so intrigued in watching people my age and my friends perform in school conditions. I wanted to see how different theatres can be in school and how better it may be outside of school. Personally, I believe it is way better at Half Moon. To watch their performance, it wasn’t in my work experience hours, I was allowed to go home but I decided to stay a while to see them. That’s how intrigued I was. It was lovely seeing people I know act and how good they are even outside of school. Watching Orbit perform made me think about wanting to join because all their acting standards achieve to the level of mine.

Today I also had to say goodbye to Shjodi as I wouldn’t be working with her anymore. She genuinely helped me so much throughout my time with her by giving me tasks and helping me when I struggled or had questions. I thank her for helping me so much throughout my time. She is a very good representative of the Half Moon team showing her kindness and care towards others.

Day 4 – Thursday 2 July 2026

Today I had an earlier day as I started at 10am. Throughout my work experience I had started at later times like 3pm and 2pm so it was an adjustment in getting here but luckily, I made it on time. I was also told beforehand I won’t be working with any younger children today, so it made me intrigued about what I was going to do. I did a various amount of tasks to help by doing a lot of sticking and making posters of post it notes which the Youth theatre had made. I also helped the Next Steps programme with making the schedule for the kids who need it. Although the tasks were easy and straightforward they still kept me busy for a long time which helped me a lot. Today was one of the fastest days I have had but all I could think about it how my work experience is coming to an end soon.

Day 5 – Friday 3 July 2026

Today is my last day of my work experience at Half Moon Theatre and I have enjoyed my time well and learnt many new things. I am very sad my experience here has come to an end as I felt a connection to this company while being here. I came to Half Moon Theatre for a specific reason to help me answer a question I’ve had in my head for a while. For months I haven’t enjoyed theatre like I always loved, I lost passion and the motivation to give it my all. As theatre was always a huge love of mine it was hard feeling that way. You may wonder if I hate theatre why did I come to a theatre company? This brings me back to my question. My question was is that if I could find a love in theatre again or was it fully gone. To sum up it all up of my experience Half Moon helped me to find that love and passion again. Half Moon made me realise how much I love theatre and how much it meant to me. This experience woke me up and realised that what I have been missing is my love for theatre and it feels so good for my passion to come back.

Today I did tasks majority I had already done but as I did it so well I was asked to do it again such as making the schedule again. I also did one of my favourite tasks I did while being here which was sorting out the best photos taken for different groups. I mainly found it fun being able to sort out photos I had taken myself as I thought they were pretty good.

My work experience at this theatre helped me find love for one of my favourite things again and I couldn’t thank the team enough. They found a love in me which I thought was gone and it was so inspirational to feel and see. I thank Half Moon for letting me have this experience and for me experiencing new things by learning and finding new things. Thank you to all the team especially for making me so comfortable in their workplace and I hope to see them again one day!
