The OnComm Offiettes recognise productions for young people that were presented live or online during 2021. They form part of the Offies, which acknowledge the excellence of shows from independent, alternative and fringe theatre.
Written by acclaimed award-winning children’s author Laura Dockrill (Darcy Burdock book series and Big Bones) Dust used exquisite poetic language to explore a heartfelt story about love, loss, identity and memory. With haunting music by Hugo White of The Maccabees, this striking and emotional play was a joyous reminder about just how playful the world can be.
Dust featured Faye Weerasinghe and Katherine Vernez-Gray and had direction by Chris Elwell, design by Peter Morton, sound design by Guy Connelly, lighting design by Callum Thomson and film editing by Ed Sunman.
Chris Elwell, the director of Dust, commented: “We are absolutely delighted that Dust has been recognised at the Off West End Theatre Awards with an OnComm Offiette for Best Theatre for Children Aged 5-11. We are immensely proud of the show and the wonderful team of people who helped create this award-winning co-production with Z-arts. Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you all.”
Chris continued: “The production is a fantastic recognition of Half Moon’s digital work, which offers a selection of live-recorded productions for young people to stream online from the comfort of your own home, allowing everyone to access the power of theatre.”
The Offies Awards Ceremony took place online on 20 February and was screened via Scenesaver.
Dust is available to watch via our On Demand service of online Half Moon shows, which allows you to watch some of our recent productions whenever you want, wherever you want, and as many times as you like for 48 hours.
The live-recorded film of Dust has closed captioning for d/Deaf and hard of hearing audiences and is also available with British Sign Language.
The filming of Dust was made possible by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, distributed by City Bridge Trust through the London Community Response Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players for making this possible
