Hi, my name’s Esther Rennae Walker and I’m the Trainee TYA producer/programmer at Half Moon. I’m very excited to be working on the Narratives of Empathy and Resilience project and look forward to charting the programme with a series of blogs, photos and videos. So let’s get started…

Empathy and Resilience: Blog 1

After numerous zooms and emails with the 17 artists involved, we were excited to officially launch the programme with a kickstarter day on Friday 14 May where everyone was able to meet in-person without the barrier of a screen!

The day was packed with tea and biscuits, tissue rolls and papers (see the picture for further explanation), creative activities and discussions to collectively explore the themes of the project.

As the group of artists come from a broad range of disciplines, with very varied experiences of creating theatre for young audiences, we were able explore what it means to create stories for young people, the brilliance and capabilities of young minds, and reconciling with your inner child.

The Kickstarter day opened up ambitious possibilities for the artists and has set the tone for what we hope will be a wonderful journey of learning, risk-taking and creating, whilst always keeping young audiences at the forefront of our minds.

We plan to chart this exciting journey with a series of blogs, photos and videos. I look forward to sharing the Empathy and Resilience journey with you.
