Sharings – Autumn 2018

half moon full RGB GREEN 300x300

Our Youth Theatres brought the autumn 2018 term to a close with some wonderful sharings in front of family and friends. Check out the photos below along with links to watch the performances online.

Comets – Wiggle Woshers

This term, Comets have been using as their stimulus the book The Wiggle Woshers and Their Stolen Hearts. The young people have been exploring how they can use their bodies to create shapes and characters, and to portray how a character is feeling. They have thought about sound and music and have had a lot of fun composing a soundtrack for each of their characters using different instruments and props.

The illustrations for the book were created by Damilola Idowu, who attends our Solar Youth Theatre. Comets have loved using Dami’s images to inspire their physical work and influence the design for their heart props!

Congratulations to Buddy and Leila for winning Recognition Awards. Also huge cheers for Amelia and Nicoleta for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Eclipse – Speechless

This term, Eclipse have been creating work without using their voices, so this sharing involves no speaking at all! The young people have learnt how to perform with full emotion, body language and facial expressions in order to produce powerful storytelling. To help them develop these skills, they have listened to and interpreted music through movement, and used this to devise scenes.

Congratulations to Alice and Winta for winning Recognition Awards. Also huge cheers for Eleni and Katka for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Equinox – The Music Master

This term, Equinox have been exploring how they can use music as a stimulus to create theatre. Over the term they have listened to different pieces of classical music and have used various techniques to devise work. The young people have written story blurbs, drawn dance maps and created poems in response to the music they have heard. The group themselves have devised the story of ‘The Music Master’ as a narrative within which to share their creative work.

Solar – Open Workshop

This term, Solar have been enjoying re-visiting some of their favourite workshop activities and thinking about how they connect as an ensemble. The aim was to hand over as much of the running of each session to the members, with them suggesting suitable activities and games for everyone to do as well as explaining how they should do them. They have been considering the different qualities that are needed to be a good drama facilitator to develop members’ leading skills.

In their sharing, the audience joined the workshop, led by the Solar members, and discovered some of the things that go into making Solar the wonderful, creative theatre company that they are.

Congratulations to Dami for winning a Recognition Award. Also huge cheers to Dexter for getting a certificate for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing his ideas.
