Uniting through creativity

At Half Moon, we’ve always believed in the power of creativity to bring people together. With our Journey Together project, supported by Save the Children, we created a safe, welcoming and imaginative space for local families to connect, play and grow – together.

Launched at Mile End Children & Family Centre and Manorfield Nursery, the 10-week programme focused on families with children aged 2 to 3. Using drama, music and movement, we supported children’s social, emotional and behavioural development, while also offering parents and carers the chance to reflect, connect and support their own well-being.

Each session was themed around real-life experiences that could spark imagination in young children – starting in familiar places like a café or farm, and gradually exploring more abstract environments like underwater or outer space.

Sessions were fun, creative and rooted in play. But more importantly, they were co-designed with the families themselves. Through early parent/carer voice sessions and regular check-ins, families helped shape the activities, ensuring everything was meaningful and accessible.

We also recognised that many families, especially those new to services or unsure where to turn, needed a place where they felt genuinely included. A dedicated Access Worker supported those with additional needs and consistent staffing helped build trust across the weeks.

Beyond the play and creativity, something special happened: families started learning from each other. They shared parenting strategies, ideas and encouragement. That informal peer support turned out to be one of the most powerful aspects of the project.

At Half Moon, we understand how challenging the early years can be – for both children and parents. That’s why Journey Together placed equal value on both. When parents feel empowered and confident, it directly benefits their children. And when families feel connected to others in their community, everyone thrives.

We’re incredibly proud of the impact Journey Together has had. It reminded us all that with the right space, support and creativity, families can flourish – side by side.
