Half Moon Theatre welcomed over 250 young people from local schools and families in Tower Hamlets to its special events for Children’s Art Week (12-16 June), with free gallery visits and successful workshops with Helen Kelly and Olabisi Ikuomola-Andre, two of the artists from THAT – Half, the latest Gallery @ Half Moon exhibition.
THAT – Half is a snapshot of some of the best contemporary practice from 21 artist teachers all of whom work as art teachers across the schools of Tower Hamlets. Inspired by a collective passion to create a dialogue about their practice, the artists offer a mix of style and mediums including etchings, observational drawings, photography, digital prints, water-colour and mixed medium collage. Collectively, they offer an immediate vibrancy that, regardless of the artistic medium, make you think about contemporary scenes and situations.
Children’s Art Week, run by the national gallery education service Engage, is a UK-wide programme which encourages children, young people, families and teachers to engage with the visual arts. Events have taken place in galleries, arts centres, museums, libraries, schools and community/youth centres.
