Connect uses drama to support young people’s mental wellbeing, helping them build the confidence to recognise when a peer may be struggling, understand how to support others and develop positive strategies for their own wellbeing.
Delivered through creative, therapeutic and practical approaches, participants explore challenging situations in a safe and supportive environment. They develop strategies for self-regulation, empathy and peer support, while building confidence to talk about mental wellbeing.
The programme
At the heart of Connect is forum theatre – an interactive approach that encourages critical thinking, discussion and active participation.
Using drama techniques, participants explore real-life situations and wider issues that can affect their wellbeing. They have the opportunity to try out different responses, consider different perspectives and practise practical strategies they can use in everyday life.
Supporting wellbeing across the school
Connect takes a whole-school approach to mental wellbeing rather than working with pupils in isolation.
Teachers and school staff actively participate in the sessions, gaining practical strategies and greater confidence to support pupils. The programme can help inform school culture, classroom practice and pastoral support, with learning that can continue long after the sessions have ended.
Free for Year 5 pupils
