6-year-old Manny is bursting with excitement at the thought of preparing a welcome home dinner for his dad Tony, who’s on a work trip for his new job. Together with his mum, professional chef Valeria, his granny Abuela Alma, and his superhero companion Mighty Mujer, he is planning to cook a family meal of arepas, guacamole, and delicious brigadeiros for dessert.

Abuela Alma, however, would rather Manny goes and plays with his toys than help in the kitchen, she thinks it’s “a woman’s place”. Manny feels differently. Why can’t he cook and learn to be a professional chef or a superhero when he grows up? Or both?

But when his mum goes to get a missing ingredient, and Abuela Alma falls asleep, a minor mishap risks putting the whole meal on the line. Manny will have to be resourceful and take on the challenge to put things right with the help of Mighty Mujer – and the audience!

Through dancing, singing and cooking, Súper Chefs explores food, family, and gender roles in a Latin American family. The production has interactive elements where audiences sing, dance and make food alongside the performers, inspiring a new dialogue between audiences and the show.

Súper Chefs is Maya Productions’ new bi-lingual, interactive Latin American family musical by Betsy Picart with original music by Ariel Cubría, exploring family relationships, food and gender roles.

Please be aware that food will be incorporated into the performance, which will be handled by the cast. The audience will have the chance to play with dough balls made from gluten-free rice flour and will be invited to eat tortilla chips and guacamole after the show. Hand sanitiser will be available for everyone. All ingredients will be clearly communicated to the audience.

Both performances on Saturday 9 November will be British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted by Sumayya Si-Tayeb.

Alongside the performances on Saturday 9 November are two FREE community workshops.
