Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives

The Stages of Half Moon exhibition, exploring the rich history of Half Moon Theatre, is on display at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives from 12 January – 1 April 2017. This is an expanded version of the exhibition shown at Half Moon in July and August and features a series of new artefacts in display cases.

The exhibition officially opens on Thursday 12 January, with a special launch event featuring an introduction by Half Moon’s Director, Chris Elwell, and a short talk about the theatre’s early days from Michael Irving, one of the co-founders of the theatre, who will also perform an extract from the opening scene of In the Jungle of the Cities, by Bertolt Brecht, the first play to be performed at Half Moon Theatre.

This is your last chance to see the exhibition after a successful tour of three London venues. If you are unable to make the launch event, the exhibition is open to the public until 1 April at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives. Click here for opening times.

You can also check out the history of Half Moon Theatre on its dedicated website,, which includes interviews with over 100 people who have been involved with the company.
