Youth Theatre Awards

Half Moon recognises young people’s achievement through Arts Award and the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.

All of our Youth Theatre members also have the chance to participate in our Youth Forum to feed back their thoughts to the tutors, core team and Board of Trustees at Half Moon.

Jack Petchy LogoEach term, we celebrate the positive contributions of two young people from each of our seven Youth Theatres through our Recognition Scheme. For Lunar and Solar, one of these awards each term is a Jack Petchey Award.

The young people create a wish list of items and additional experiences they would like which are funded by the Award. This includes trips to performances, sessions with specialist artists, or equipment for their Youth Theatre sessions.

Award Winners, their families and carers, community representatives, local VIPs and Half Moon staff attend the Awards presentations which take place as part of the end of term Youth Theatre sharings.

Recent Jack Petchey Winners

Our most recent four Jack Petchey winners were selected by their groups for a variety of qualities, such as: having great creativity and doing brilliant character work; for dynamism, enthusiasm and openness; for having infectious enthusiasm and making everyone laugh; and for always committing and being fun to be around.

One young person chose to spend the money on a musician coming into their sessions; others chose for the money to be spent in different resources including tablet computers, a new projector for the theatre; another chose for the money to go towards the printing costs for the professional programme produced for their end of term sharing.

Recently, our Youth Theatre members voted for a Leader who inspires and supports them: Androulla, who leads on two of our Youth Theatres: Eclipse and Lunar. Members voted for her because they think: she is supportive and inspiring; she is considerate and encourages members to grow as actors. Well done, Androulla!

Arts Award

The Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification that has been developed by Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall and aims to inspire young people to develop their arts and leadership talents.
