Comets – Free The Lines

This term Comets have been exploring storytelling and the ways in which we can use this technique in drama. Starting with re-enacting familiar fairytales in both small and large groups, they moved on to explore other ways in which drama could explore other well-known tales, finally looking at how they could tell a story that was visually based and had no words. Using as a stimulus Free The Lines – one of the books featured in our gallery exhibition by Clayton Junior this Autumn term – the group have explored and experimented with some incredible physical theatre work to represent the images from the pages of this book, adding their own writing and improvised words to the interpretation of the story presented in the sharing.

Congratulations to Kobe and Olivia Grace for winning Recognition Awards. See the video here. (You will need a password to access this video so contact us for that).

Eclipse – Exeunt

What is it like backstage at the theatre? This is the question we put to Eclipse at the start of the term and we have had immense fun bringing to life a myriad of scenarios that may occur at any one point during a show. Also taking into consideration the audience’s experience, Eclipse have endeavoured to put together a piece about an evening spent at the theatre, where it all begins well… but may not end so!

Congratulations to Cal and Elysia for winning Recognition Awards. See the video here

Eclipse Autumn Sharing - Dec 2016

Equinox – Grandma Girl

“There’s somebody at the door” – Who is she? What does she want?

This term Equinox have been exploring emotions and how they influence our interaction with each other and the objects around us. Through devising and improvising, they ended up creating a strange room where the furniture has feelings and anything could happen. Taking influence from the poem ‘Green Candles’ by Humbert Wolfe, they explored who the occupants of this room might be, who might be trying to enter it and who might be trying to come out.

Congratulations to Ava A and Sofia for winning Recognition Awards. See the video here

Lunar – Me and My Opposite

This term Lunar were invited to explore the word ‘opposites’ through images, movement and their experiences of being a teenager. The young people spoke eloquently about feelings familiar to us all and of holding opposite emotions. They also explored feelings that can be communicated with the voice and physical expression, rather than language. Together, Lunar and their tutors invite you to consider an imaginary ‘inner’ battle of the conscience versus emotion, in a surreal and creative expression of an aspect of teenage-hood.

Congratulations to Elsa for winning the Jack Petchey Award. Also huge cheers for Jason, who won the Recognition Award. See the video here.

Solar – The Looping Club

This term Solar have been working with Toby Davies, a hugely talented musician, who has introduced them to a digital based instrument at the cutting edge of technological developments in this area: the Alphasphere. This intriguing device is designed to increase the ability of participants to make and respond to music, and has proved itself to be an inclusive addition to working as an ensemble. Along with the instrument, and the exciting prospect of a professional musician performing with the group, Solar were also given the word ‘looping’ as a starting place for their explorations.

The word ‘looping’ spontaneously appeared in Solar’s work last term when it was used by one of the group, seeming to translate as a joyful movement and feeling. This term, during creative explorations, the word took them to a location for expressive movement and music, and finally into their very own imagined Looping Club.

Congratulations to Dami for winning the Jack Petchey Award. Also huge cheers for Saira, who won the Recognition Award. See the video here.
