Sharings – Spring 2019

half moon full RGB GREEN 300x300

Our Youth Theatres brought the spring 2019 term to a close with some wonderful sharings in front of family and friends.

Check out the photos below along with links to watch the performances online.

Comets – The Pesky Pirates

A book, a candlestick, a bottle, a spyglass, a feather duster, a shell, a lamp, a bag of treasure.

In the Spring Term, Comets explored how different objects can spark their imaginations. Through different exercises, working solo, in pairs and as a whole group, they have discovered how these objects can help them create different characters, places and stories. They spent a few weeks devising with these objects, thinking about who they might belong to, where they might come from and what might be special about them. From this they went on to create a story, with the members creating a line each.
At the sharing they presented their story in one of their favourite forms; the story square. Taking it in turns, they acted out parts of our story as it was told, allowing everyone to have a turn, and to play different parts. Do you think you can identify which of their objects made it into their story?

Congratulations to Amelia and Layla for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Mia and Lucia for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Eclipse – All About Us

In the Spring Term, Eclipse explored the theme of identity. The young people have creatively explored who they are, what it is to be part of Eclipse and their thoughts and opinions on the world as a young person today. They have used personal objects to inspire powerful movement, created an Eclipse group hacka and devised scenes on how they would change the world to make it a better place.

Congratulations to Elsie and Asa for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Gracie, Peyton and Miles for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Equinox – A Bad Day Out

In the Spring Term, Equinox had enormous fun delving into the world of comedy, with a focus on clowning, commedia dell’arte and mask work. Using their ever-present natural comedic skills, Equinox have taken a more in-depth look at the traditional approaches to creating and performing comedic characters. By spending time on their physical performance skills, they have looked at how expression, physicality, gesture and sound can portray emotions, actions, intent and reactions. Through this exploration, the group have discovered how little spoken language is necessary to convey meaning and have devised a completely non-verbal show. Follow the adventures, and mishaps, of the characters One and Two as they endeavour to have a nice day out.

Congratulations to Jessica and Giulia for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Jessica and Ashleigh for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Lunar – The Theatre Company Project

In the Spring Term, Lunar became their very own theatre companies. Each young person is a member of one of four theatre companies created: Rock Paper Scissors Productions, The Other Half of the Moon, Bongo Theatre and Theatre 4. The young people have worked through the process of devising and rehearsing to create a short performance as a theatre company. The young people have had full ownership over every part of the process. This term’s sharing was a chance for each company to share their theme and a short scene they have devised so far.

Congratulations to Leela for winning a Recognition Award. Well done to Denis for winning the Jack Petchey Achievement Award. Also, a big round of applause for Malachi and Yusaf for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Solar – Leaving

What is home? What is your place there? What is important to you?

In the Spring Term, Solar looked at how we create the spaces and places we call home; what we like to do there, what we like to have around us, how we negotiate shared inhabited spaces.

Using personal props, members thought about which things are important signifiers of who we are, what we’ve experienced, how we live. Using this, members thought about how they’d design their shared spaces, physically mapping out their homes to create a village. We explored how the identity of the individual fits into the identity of the community of this village; and what may bring the people out from their homes to gather as a community.

This show was part of a two-part series in which Solar is thinking about the themes of home,  displacement, journey and settlement, and our individual identities within these different states.

Congratulations to Anthony for winning a Recognition Award. Well done to Ruby for winning the Jack Petchey Achievement Award.
