Eclipse – Murder at the Airbnb

In the summer term, Eclipse worked incredibly hard to devise, write and develop a brand new murder mystery play. In this classic ‘who-dunnit’ a ghost haunted an Airbnb, on the lookout for a new friend to play hide and seek with. Groups of people arrived for a holiday but not everyone left…

Congratulations to Miles and Avalon for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Alice and Winta for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Equinox – Stranger in Danger

This summer term, Equinox Youth Theatre created their own fun-filled, action-packed, mystery-solving adventure, pulling inspiration from such classics as The Goonies, E.T. and Stranger Things. Working as an ensemble to create the narrative, the group also created the characters together. Equinox then split into smaller groups to devise the script and staging of each scene, with every member contributing lines of dialogue and willing members taking a turn at directing these scenes. This term’s show was performed on a traverse stage, which added an extra challenge to both the directors and performers, whilst offering an opportunity to experience a different performance space.

Congratulations to Lola and Zebedee for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Lola and Matthew for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Lunar – The Theatre Company Project: Part II

In the spring term, Lunar were split into four mini theatre companies and challenged to create four new short plays. This summer term, the groups were mixed and given two options—they could either devise the next part to the original play or develop the themes involved and make it their own.

Congratulations to Maya for winning a Recognition Award. Well done to Cal for winning the Jack Petchey Achievement Award. Also, a big round of applause for Sonny and Lola for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Solar – Moving

What is home? What is your place there? What is important to you?

Continuing on from last term’s show, which focused on what home is and who we are there, this summer term Solar Youth Theatre explored how our identity is shifted when the places we use to anchor and identify ourselves have gone. Working with artist Daryl Beeton, the group devised around how collective decisions are made, how to negotiate conflict and what happens when new alliances are formed.

Having been rushed out of their village by an oncoming flood, with a few precious possessions in-tow, we found the company on the road, forging their way across unknown terrain towards an uncertain future. As obstacles and choices presented themselves, we saw how a close-knit community is easily split when adverse conditions arise.

Thinking about what we miss of the things we’ve left behind, the group also explored the freedom that comes with a chance to start again, to become someone different. With this newfound freedom set against their displacement, Solar began to touch on what it means to find somewhere new and claim it for yourself.

This show was the second part of a three-part series in which Solar is thinking about the themes of home, displacement, journey and settlement, and our individual identities within these different states.

Congratulations to Soheli for winning a Recognition Award. Well done to Temina for winning the Jack Petchey Achievement Award. Also, a big round of applause for Dami for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing his ideas.
