Lines, Shapes and Places
by Jane Smith
5 January – 16 April 2018
A striking collection of linocuts and stylised graphics formed the basis of this visually sumptuous exhibition by East London based artist Jane Smith.
Jane takes inspiration from ordinary local surroundings as much as iconic buildings and familiar street locations, which formed an eye catching range of work for her Half Moon exhibition.
Having worked as an illustrator for over 30 years on commissions for a wide variety of clients, including the BBC, The Times, The Guardian, Ted Baker, Greenpeace, Habitat and Nokia, Jane is now concentrating on her own work, allowing her love of architecture, cityscapes, maps and East London to fuse into a more personal response, which is refreshingly expressed in line drawing and linocut.
Lines, Shapes and Places included a range of Jane’s building prints, both bold and delicate, along with some original drawings of East London done in situ and a selection of linocuts and illustrated maps.
