East London based brother and sister design duo Tom and Jess Jones-Berney, running under the moniker of Tomartacus, presented a striking collection of illustrated prints that brought London’s sprawling urban jungle to life in an explosion of vibrant colour.
London Landscapes offered some incredible panoramas of the capital. From the iconic Bethnal Green Gasworks, long synonymous with the East London skyline, to the unshakeable maritime majesty of Greenwich, Tomartacus captured the unique and varied landscape of our city through a distinctly local lens.
This exhibition took us on a visual tour of local landmarks, including the colourful boats on Regent’s Canal, contemporary street art on Brick Lane, beautiful blooms in Columbia Road Flower Market, and the Dickensian charm of Limehouse.
Tomartacus’ process sees Jess taking photographs then Tom sketching them using a Wacom tablet. The result is an undeniably unique brand of hand drawn digital prints. Tomartacus like to think their art is a bit of fun for the eyes, “a slightly wobbly look at the world, with some added colour”.
Tomartacus has exhibited their work across London including The Archivist’s Gallery, The Parlour and Petite Coin.
