Daydream

by art collective RIOT SOUP

11 January – 9 July 2025

A vibrant mix of new family friendly work by women and non-binary artists of the Global Majority curated especially for Half Moon; a result of an open call out in November 2024.

Responding to the theme of daydreaming, the exhibition offers us a vibrant and stunning mix of work reflecting unique and varied responses: a refreshing and vital exploration of the power of dreams, aspirations and spontaneous thought.

Daydream asks you to connect with your inner world and embrace creative possibilities in response.

RIOT SOUP was established in 2019 and has quickly made an impact upon the visual art scene championing a bottom-up solution to addressing racism and inequality in the arts.

Through campaigning and creative work, the collective advocate for racialised and marginalised people by providing publicly facing opportunities to improve the experience and wellbeing of those accessing art, culture and the creative industries.

They aim to draw their respective narratives from the peripheral to the centre of creative discourse, motivating actionable racial allyship and solidarity, and encouraging the growth and bond of community.

As the work curated for Daydream shows, RIOT SOUP are at the forefront of setting a standard of excellence across the visual art sector, as well as inspiring the individual and collective empowerment of other Global Majority creatives to take charge of their representation and experience within the arts sector.

Beneath some of the artworks there are chalk boards for visitors – young and older – to make their own responses, or leave their own creative imprints for others to enjoy. There is also a specially created Gallery Trail for children to complete.

For all our exhibitions, we provide a gallery trail for children. School and community groups can visit free of charge to support young people in gaining Arts Award Discover and Explore. Contact Androulla on 020 7709 8908 or youth@halfmoon.org.uk for more information.
