The Ga Legacy in Colour

by Kukueley MacClean

15 January-1 July 2026

Linking past, present and future, The Ga Legacy in Colour is an exhibition dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of the Ga language from Accra, Ghana, in a contemporary form.

The exhibition brings Ga words and Gã Samai – the traditional wisdom symbols of the Ga people – into bold focus through colour, form and rhythm. Each piece becomes a small archive of memory and possibility, celebrating resilience, continuity and pride The collection honours elders and storytellers, while speaking directly to a new generation raised between cultures and cities.

In The Ga Legacy in Colour, Ga words and Gã Samai stand unapologetically present, revealing how a living language needs to continue to shape culture and identity for generations to come. It asks: what does it mean to hold on to language when the world keeps moving?

Kukueley is a London-based graphic artist specialising in contemporary African art inspired by the Ga language, infused with influences from the Western world.  Sharing a mixed Ghanaian and Jamaican family heritage and raised in London, Kukueley’s love of African culture blossomed after multiple trips to Accra, Ghana where she became totally immersed in the vibrancy of the city.

Kukueley ’s aim is to continue the preservation of our culture through contemporary design by providing African representation through artwork.
