Wandering East

by Hazel East

11 September 2025-12 January 2026

Step into a colourful journey through East London.

Wandering East is Hazel East’s playful celebration of the city’s landscapes, buildings and hidden corners – reimagined through vibrant patterns and bold colour.

Hazel East grew up in East Yorkshire and has called South London home for the past 16 years. Her illustrations are shaped by a lifelong love of maps, architecture and the ways places connect.

Alongside her illustration practice, Hazel also works as a socially engaged artist across visual and performing arts. You’ll often find her exploring lesser-known parts of the city, iPad in hand, capturing London’s ever-changing character.

This exhibition brings together a new collection of Hazel’s digital illustrations, with a focus on maps and architecture across Tower Hamlets and beyond. Inspired by the energy of London’s vibrant local communities, the works combine familiar landmarks with overlooked gems – from train stations and bridges to neighbourhood corners rich with local stories.

With a modern, joyful twist, Wandering East reveals London as a city of layers, connections and contrasts.

All artworks in the exhibition are available to purchase, framed or unframed. Please ask a member of staff or email hello@halfmoon.org.uk

Interact with the exhibition

Beneath some of the artworks there are chalk boards for visitors – young and older – to make their own responses, or leave their own creative imprints for others to enjoy. There is also a specially created Gallery Trail for children to complete.

School and community groups can visit free of charge by pre-booking and can use the exhibition to support Arts Award Discover and Explore. Contact Androulla on 020 7709 8908 or youth@halfmoon.org.uk for more information.
