Youth Theatre Sharings – Summer 2023

Five of our Youth Theatres brought the academic year to a close with fantastic sharings in front of family and friends.

The Youth Theatre sharings took place between 4 -10 July 2023 and were a lovely way to show what they had been working on this term and all of the skills they had learnt.

We want to thank parents, carers, family and friends for supporting this group of young talented performers, we are so proud of them!

Eclipse – The Tele-Portal

This term Eclipse have devised theatre based on the theme of ‘time travel’. The group were tasked with creating new and exciting worlds; Who lived there? What were the rules? What did they eat and do everyday?

This led to some really fun and creative scenes as they played with ideas every week. Once decided upon, Eclipse were tasked with
telling the story of their world in a clear and precise way, making sure the audience could understand the storyline.

Eclipse have had a jam packed term, not only devising the whole performance but working on their performance skills, looking at ways to perform through movement and mime and even building and designing the set!

Congratulations to Amelia and Malika for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Ceren and Emma for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Equinox – The Box

Equinox started this term by looking at the story of Pandora’s Box. They used drama to explore how it feels to be tempted or overcome by curiosity. They developed stories around consequences and what happens when you give in to temptation.

Congratulations to Malachi and Nadine for winning Recognition Awards. Also, a big round of applause for Precious and Soffia for getting a certificate for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Lunar – Fine Dining

This term Lunar have been pushed out of their comfort zone. We have challenged them with a really tricky genre of theatre:
immersive theatre.

After several weeks of playing with ideas, Lunar have devised their own immersive restaurant experience and the team have been really impressed with how the group have taken to this new way of working.

Congratulations to Iokasti for winning the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievers award and Saida for winning a Recognition Award. Also, a big round of applause for Alice for getting a certificate for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing her ideas.

Orbit – We Could be Heroes

Orbit have spent this term exploring the concept of heroism, society’s view of heroes and what it means to be a hero.
They have experimented with different ways of telling their stories. They have used minimal dialogue, lots of movement as well as facial expressions and gesture. One group has included placards to communicate. Please join us to
celebrate with our winners at the Average Everyday Super-hero Awards 2023

Congratulations to Amber for winning the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievers award and to Elizabeth for winning a Recognition Award. Also, a big round of applause for Avantika and Kayla for getting certificates for taking part in our Youth Theatre Forum and sharing their ideas.

Solar – The SOS Experience

A fascinating peek into the UK’s most iconic film and television studios: Solar Original Studios. Home to legendary cooking show Ready, Steady, Witches and acclaimed singing contest The Voice. Come along on the backstage tour to see the hidden secrets of the costume department, experience a day in the life of a busy CEO, visit the SOS audition room and take a ride on our shuttle bus!

This term we used costume as the stimulus to devise our scenes. The title for the show came to us when Saira spontaneously grabbed a microphone and sang SOS by ABBA for the group. We asked Dana and Jamie, who are leaving Solar this term, to choreograph a big ensemble movement piece for our grand finale.

Congratulations to Desmond for winning Recognition Award.

Youth Theatre Sharings Archive

Every Youth Theatre group normally has a sharing performance on the last session of each term where we welcome parents, carers, friends and families. All sharings take place in the main theatre space. There is no charge for adults or other children attending these performances and we encourage as many people as possible to come and support the young people by seeing their hard work performed.
