A welcoming gallery space celebrating the creativity and talent of local artists
Gallery @ Half Moon is a free exhibition space showcasing a changing programme of artwork for children, young people and families. Open during theatre opening hours, it offers visitors the chance to explore a range of artistic styles in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
Visitors of all ages are encouraged to respond to the artwork through chalkboards placed beneath selected pieces, while younger visitors can get creative with our art cart, stocked with drawing and collage materials.
Each exhibition includes a children’s art trail, supporting Artsmark and Arts Award activities, alongside workshops and events for schools and community groups. School groups attending a performance can arrange to arrive before the show to explore the exhibition and complete the trail.

Since 2012, Half Moon has built a collection of artwork from past exhibitions, which can be discovered throughout the building in meeting rooms, offices, corridors and other unexpected spaces. Keep an eye out during your visit – how many pieces can you spot?
You can also explore the changing face of Tower Hamlets in Snapped 1990 | 2020, our outdoor photography exhibition in the Half Moon Garden. Featuring images of the same locations taken 30 years apart, it offers a fascinating glimpse into how the borough has evolved over time.
In the upper corridor, Stages of Half Moon celebrates the theatre’s rich history through a permanent display of photographs, original posters and archive material, charting the story of Half Moon Theatre through the decades.

School Gallery Visits
School groups coming to Half Moon to see a show can arrive up to 45mins before the performance to allow children a chance to interact with our gallery exhibition. We have a short gallery trail activity for the children to complete when they are here, if appropriate for the age group, and workshops with the artist can be arranged.
