Gallery @ Half Moon

An exciting gallery space for local artists to display their work in the theatre foyer

Gallery @ Half Moon is free to visit and is open during the theatre opening hours. Beneath some of the artwork, there are chalkboards for visitors of all ages to make their own responses. You can write a message or draw a picture and leave it for others to enjoy. We also have an art cart to enable children to do their own drawings and collages.

For all our exhibitions, we provide an art trail for children to complete appropriate for Artsmark and Arts Award and a series of special events and workshops for schools and community groups. So, for example, school groups visiting the theatre for a performance can arrive 45 mins before the show so the children can complete the art trail.

Come and view a range of different styles, all suitable for children and young people.

“Love the children’s art space especially set out for young kids going to the theatre”

Art at Half Moon

Since 2012, Half Moon has collected a range of art from previous exhibitions to put on display throughout the building, in meeting rooms, offices, passageways and other surprising places. How many can you find?

You can also explore the changing face of Tower Hamlets over 30 years in our Snapped 1990 | 2020 photography exhibition in the Half Moon Garden. Same scene, 30 years apart.

Our Stages of Half Moon exhibition is on permanent display in the upper corridor and is overflowing with photographs and original posters highlighting the rich heritage of Half Moon Theatre.

School groups coming to Half Moon to see a show can arrive up to 45mins before the performance to allow children a chance to interact with our gallery exhibition. We have a short gallery trail activity for the children to complete when they are here, if appropriate for the age group, and workshops with the artist can be arranged.
