Mousa’s Work Experience Blog

I am now at the end of my 1-week work experience at Half Moon Theatre and throughout the week I have experienced a variety of tasks.

For the first 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) I mainly joined in the different sessions.

On Monday, I joined one of the groups (year 4-6) in Eastside Youth Centre in Bow; the group were very active and engaged throughout the session. After this I returned to the theatre and joined another session called Solar, this session was more peaceful and calmer.

On Tuesday, I joined a creative play session which is for babies and toddlers, this was a very interesting session as it was very active and loud. After that I joined a chaotic first session of Eclipse for 8-11 years. They played a few games and then we re-watched Eclipse’s last term show (Twisted Tales) which was the usual fairy tales (Harry Potter, Aladdin etc) this was a very entertaining show.

On Wednesday, during the afternoon I wrote a review on the sessions I have been to, (the strengths and weaknesses).  I then joined Equinox (another session for year 4-6) in the theatre. This session was very well behaved and active. They played a few games such as Opposites and Traffic lights; this is when the tutor says – stop / go – but you must do the opposite.

The last two days (Thursday and Friday) were more of packing the suitcases (for the creative play programme) which involved laminating and cutting out pictures for the different themes that the sessions do.

Overall, it was an interesting experience. I got to see the design/ prop rooms and how the projector and lighting works. Lydia (the one who was monitoring me) and the rest of the staff were very helpful and kind in explaining my tasks. Work experience at Half Moon was very exciting and fun throughout the week I was there.
