After an incredible three months of creating imaginative and moving theatre for young audiences our Narratives of Empathy and Resilience Programme has officially concluded.
Last week we showcased nine powerful performances of different genres and different target audiences within Theatre for Young Audiences. From underwater psychic babies to teenage daytime raves, the programme was curated with unique and provocative work that left all of us inspired. It did indeed provoke empathy and resilience.
Each performance was followed with a panel discussion with the artists about their pieces as well as their creative development throughout the programme. It was evident by what they said that the artists had developed, both in their practice and creative capacity, and wanted to continue writing for young people, which cemented the success of our first Narratives of Empathy and Resilience programme.
The performance day opened up exciting potential, not only for the artists, but also for the Theatre for Young Audiences sector. Though we were unable to welcome delegates in-person, the showcase was professionally filmed. We plan to continue the programme in the autumn, where we will invite our friends in the sector to engage in the digital performances, with hopes to create new and provocative work for young audiences in the future and keep them at the forefront of our minds.
