Half Moon 1990

Half Moon is celebrating its 30th Birthday as a young people’s company (a little late due to COVID-19). The project includes three strands: Snapped in 1990 – an exhibition of photos of our home borough of Tower Hamlets from 1990 alongside recreated photos of the same locations in 2020, photographed by our young people; Born in 1990 – a series of filmed interviews by our young people with people from Tower Hamlets or with a connection to the borough who celebrated their 30th Birthday last year; Happened in 1990 – five films of performances created by our young people about world events that happened in 1990.

We are on the lookout for some local people to help us.

Born in 1990

Are you a local resident who was born in 1990? Are you a local councilor, or do you work in social services, on the DLR, in banking in Canary Wharf or in the hospitality sector on or around Brick Lane? Then we would love to hear from you! Our young people will conduct interviews with you about the last 30 years in Tower Hamlets and what you think the next 30 years might have in store. The interviews will be filmed and turned into a short documentary.

Happened in 1990

We’re looking for artists with experience of working collaboratively in participatory settings to work with us on the filmmaking for Happened in 1990.

We are seeking:

  • a participatory filmmaker / videochoreographer who can work with our young people and our Youth Theatre tutors to piece their stories together in film;
  • an editor who can bring all of this together in the final edited films;
  • a designer/maker who can determine the visual narrative of the films. This will involve creating small pieces of set/props and sourcing costumes for the different performances in the theatre space as well as drawings or manipulated photographic images for projected/animated/virtual backdrops in the final films.

Find out more and details of how to apply can be found here.
