Comets – Magic for Sale

“On the corner of Hemlock and Blight, sulks the shop of Miss Pustula Night, with a sign on the stair: Come inside. But beware, the unwelcome mat’s likely to bite!”

Enter, if you dare, into the mysterious, marvellous magic shop of Miss Pustula Night, full of interesting, special and strange objects that like to take on a life of their own. Using the book Magic for Sale, by Carrie Clickard (author) and John Shelley (illustrator), Comets have had great fun this term acting out the story and then working together to write their own version. We have been exploring how to use our bodies to create objects, as well as taking turns to devise each line of the script. The result? A fantastical story of hi-jinx and fun, and how a midnight snack can make all the difference!

Congratulations to Alice and Kasper for winning Recognition Awards.

Eclipse – Grown Up

What’s it like growing up?

This term Eclipse explored what it is to grow up, experimenting with voice, movement, physicality and time. We started improvising around our theme; playing around with being “older”.

The members have created their own fantastical stories about a wide range of characters, all navigating different aspects of ageing and what it means to be a grown up!

Congratulations to Katerina and Elizabeth for winning Recognition Awards.

Equinox – The Dream Gallery

What does your dream feel like? This term Equinox have been exploring the world of our dreams and how we are able to capture them to share with others. We started by drawing a dream we’d had, then through group devising we looked at how we could try to bring the pictures to life. We improvised dream worlds using props and created sensory experiences to journey through them. We wanted to find a way to include our dream pictures in our sharing and it was suggested they could be in a ‘Gallery of Dreams’. From that point on, Equinox have devised and scripted an adventurous, clever story that delves into the colourful world of the subconscious, and how challenging it may be when you try to escape back to reality.

Congratulations to Bezawit and Laura for winning Recognition Awards.

Lunar – Brexit? The Magic of it All

This term Lunar took on the elephant in the room. What are we having for Brexifast?

Earlier in the term, Lunar attended a performance of What Once Was Ours at Half Moon which sparked discussions around Brexit. The group focussed their ideas through ensemble work and devising; developing their skills in expressing their thoughts and opinions in abstract ways.

The members created their own scenes in response to what they’ve seen in the media surrounding Brexit. Is it correct? Is it fair? Are both sides of the argument being represented?

Congratulations to Yusef for winning the Jack Petchey Award. Also huge cheers for Sonny B, who won the Recognition Award.

Solar – The Solar System

What has happened at Half Moon?
Where are Sam and Madeleine?!
Will the members find their way through this momentous theatrical catastrophe?

The Solar System relies on an ethos of working together in the face of challenge, change and drama . This term in Solar we have focused on what the members of the group expect from each other, and the adults in the room.

Using this agreement we explored the system we use in Solar to work and create! This evening we invite you to join us as we figure out how the Solar System works when Sam and Madeline have gone missing!

Congratulations to Desmond for winning the Jack Petchey Award. Also huge cheers for Tahera, who won the Recognition Award.
